Artist Information & Application:
Goals:
We are fully aware of the challenges involved in promoting serious
art endeavours. Our philosophy is rooted in this understanding.
Through attention to detail in the organization, promotion and
holding of our annual Merrickville Fine Art Festival we will support
the creative artistic expression of our participants by connecting
them with an ever-expanding base of art collectors and the public in
general.
We will continue to encourage and promote young talent and provide
emerging artists the opportunity to exhibit their works for the
first time. We also intend on making our Festival dynamic, eclectic,
thought-provoking, serious - but fun. In an effort to minimize costs
to the artists, there will be no commission on art sold; artists
will be responsible for their own sales.
We will continue to obtain feedback from the artists and the public.
Eligibility and Guidelines:
The Festival will be open to original, non-utilitarian two - and three-dimensional fine art created by the exhibiting artist. Slides or prints submitted by interested artists will be judged by a jury of qualified art professionals whose judging criteria will include technical skill, creativity and originality. Artists chosen to participate in the Festival will receive official confirmation by mail.
The entry fee for participating in the show is $200 Cdn. Once an accepted artist has submitted his or her fees, that entry fee is non-refundable. The artwork of participating artists must be comparable to that of their slide submissions. Only original pieces can be displayed on the wall panels. Reproductions can be included as part of a table display or placed in V-bins. It is necessary that participating artists are available to man their booth for the entire festival (3 days).
Each artist will be allocated a space which will include four 4 x 8 white pegboard panels (2 panels as backing 8' x 8' and 2 side panels 4' x 8' to form a U-shaped booth), two floodlights and two chairs. All electrical lighting will be professionally installed. Any other material - picture hooks, draping, tables - must be supplied by the artists themselves.
We encourage artists to "get to know their neighbour" and to help each other out during the Festival as the need arises. "The Starving Artists' Café" a popular spot for both artists and the public will be back, rest rooms, and free parking will also be available. Overnight security will be provided., however, we cannot be held responsible for damage, loss or theft of an artist’s work.
